Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between being a consultant and a Team Lead?

As a Team Lead, you take on a step up from consulting — guiding and managing your team throughout the entire semester-long project. You’re responsible for keeping the team on track, structuring deliverables, managing client communication, and ensuring the quality of the final output. An ideal role for people looking for experience in project management and leadership in a consulting environment.

Although it’s a role best suited for those who have already gained experience in consulting and are ready to take the next step, we welcome any other leadership experience as well.

Absolutely! No prior consulting experience is needed — we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and fields of study. What matters most is your motivation, curiosity, and passion for creating social impact.

180DC Vienna’s goal is to bridge the gap between motivation and real work experience. All you need is the drive to make a difference, and we’ll equip you with the rest.

You can apply from your very first bachelor’s semester — there’s no need to wait. If you’re motivated to create impact, you’re welcome to join right away. We believe that meaningful work starts with initiative, not seniority, and we’ll support you from day one.

Yes, and you are encouraged to! In fact, only about half of our members come from a business or related background. The other half bring expertise from a wide range of fields — including engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, psychology, and the humanities and social sciences.

We truly value interdisciplinarity and actively embrace the diverse perspectives it brings to the table.

Unfortunately, we’re unable to make exceptions for candidates who cannot attend the Assessment Centre in person. However, we are open to discussing a potential online alternative on a case‑by‑case basis.

It is mandatory for all new members to attend both the Onboarding Evening and the full Onboarding Day. If there is a valid and compelling reason, we can consider an exception on a case‑by‑case basis. Otherwise, we encourage you to apply next semester.

Since we are an international, student‑led consultancy all application materials must be submitted in English. Please note that applications in any other language — including German — will be automatically rejected.

It usually takes 5–10 hours per week, depending on your team’s pace and the project phase. This includes research, client meetings, internal team sessions, preparing deliverables, and partner workshops. We design our workload so it stays manageable alongside your studies while still giving you real consulting experience.
